A connection lasts as long as the working relationship does. Managing it is a matter of knowing what is flowing over it and being able to stop it.
This topic includes:
Review what is shared
Connections in and out, with their status.
Read the shared list rather than trusting memory. Sharing tends to accumulate: somebody shares a folder for one package and nobody takes it back when the package finishes.
Suspend or end a connection
Suspend stops the flow while keeping the connection, which is right when a subcontractor is off site for a while. Ending it removes the connection and everything shared over it.
Do one or the other at practical completion. A live connection to a company that has left the job is an access route nobody is watching.
Accepting an incoming connection
Incoming requests are listed on the same screen. Before accepting one, check the company and the project it names — accepting creates a route for information to flow, and it is worth thirty seconds of confirmation with whoever asked for it.
