The register's most-asked question is not "what is the status" but "whose turn is it". SIDABuild answers both.
This topic includes:
The statuses
| Status | Means |
|---|---|
| Draft | Written, not yet issued — visible only to your side |
| Open | Issued, and waiting for an answer |
| Answered | A response has been recorded |
| Closed | The response was accepted and the question is finished with |
| Void | Withdrawn or raised in error |
A draft RFI is not a question anybody has been asked. It is worth knowing this before the progress meeting where you say you raised it.
Ball in court
"Ball in court" (BIC) is whoever the RFI is waiting on. While it is open, that is the assignee — usually the design team. Once it is answered, the ball is back with whoever raised it, to accept the answer or push back.
Number, subject, status and who it is waiting on.
Filtering by ball in court is the fastest way to prepare for a design team meeting: it produces exactly the list of questions they owe you.
Overdue RFIs
An RFI has a due date, set when it is raised, that reflects when an answer is needed for the work not to be held up. Past that date it is overdue, and it shows in Insight's risk reading as a question that is now on the critical path of somebody's week.
Tip: a due date of "as soon as possible" on every RFI is the same as no due date at all. Date them by when the work actually needs the answer.
