Naming the building once pays off everywhere: the same tree is the filter in Issues, Photos, Assets and the reports built on them.
This topic includes:
Where locations appear
| Tool | What the location does |
|---|---|
| Issues | Says where the defect is; filters the register by area |
| Photos | Makes a picture findable by the room it was taken in |
| Assets | Records where a plant item is installed |
| Reports | Groups a report by area — one section per level |
Filtering by place
The most useful question a site manager asks is "what is outstanding on Level 02?". With locations set up, that is one filter in Issues and one in Assets, and the answers agree with each other because they are drawn from the same tree.
Free-text location details
Alongside the location itself, most tools offer a free-text location details box: "by grid C4", "third bay from the north". Use it for the precision the tree should not carry — you do not want a node in the breakdown for every grid intersection, but you do want to find the crack again.
Where a drawing exists, better still is a pin on the sheet: see Markups and pins.
