A project is created once and then filled in as the job goes on. Only the name is needed to start; everything else can be added later, and most of it can be changed at any time.
This topic includes:
Create the project
- Open the project list and click New project.
- Give it a name. Use the name the team says out loud — the one that will be read off a screen on site.
- Click Create. You are taken into the new project.
The project is created in whichever workspace you are in, and you become its first administrator.
What to fill in first
Three things repay filling in on day one, because other tools read them:
| Field | Read by |
|---|---|
| Start and target completion dates | Insight, Schedule, the progress bar |
| Units — metric or imperial | Every measurement the product shows |
| Address and city | Reports, and the weather on the project home screen |
The rest — project number, type, budget, description — improves reports and can wait. See Project settings.
Copy from an existing project
If your projects are alike, set one up properly and copy from it. Copying brings across the parts that are configuration rather than content: the location breakdown, issue categories and types, root causes, RFI types, roles and notification settings. It does not bring across drawings, issues or costs.
Tip: the location breakdown is the one to get right before work starts. Renaming a level later is easy; re-tagging four hundred photos is not. See Build the location breakdown.
